The Emmy winners 2026 have been revealed, and this year's Emmy Awards delivered several major surprises.
Widow’s Bay was the biggest winner of the night, taking home a record-breaking 14 Emmys after dominating both the Creative Arts ceremonies and the main telecast. The Apple TV horror-comedy won Outstanding Comedy Series, while Matthew Rhys took home Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as Mayor Tom Loftis.
But Rhys was not finished.
The actor also won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Netflix's The Beast in Me, giving him two lead acting Emmys in the same year and creating one of the most remarkable achievements in recent Emmy history.
Meanwhile, The Pitt continued its extraordinary run by winning Outstanding Drama Series, with Noah Wyle taking home Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
And that is only part of the story.
From Widow’s Bay and The Pitt to The Beast in Me, Hacks, Pluribus, Only Murders in the Building and more, the 2026 Emmys produced a fascinating mix of expected victories, historic achievements and genuine surprises.
Here is the complete breakdown of the Emmy winners 2026, what happened at the ceremony, and the biggest stories you need to know.

Widow’s Bay Dominates the 2026 Emmy Awards
The biggest headline from the Emmy award winners this year is undoubtedly Widow’s Bay.
The Apple TV series arrived at the 2026 ceremony with 19 nominations and left with 14 wins, making it the most successful comedy in a single Emmy season and surpassing the previous record of 13 set by The Studio in 2025.
That makes the Widows Bay Emmys story much bigger than simply winning Outstanding Comedy Series.
The show won major awards across acting, writing and directing.
Its main-telecast victories included:
- Outstanding Comedy Series
- Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Matthew Rhys
- Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Stephen Root
- Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Kate O’Flynn
- Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series: Katie Dippold
- Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series: Hiro Murai
The Television Academy describes Widow’s Bay as a comedy-horror series about a haunted New England island community. Its unusual combination of comedy and horror clearly connected with Emmy voters.
Who Is Katie Dippold?
One of the most important names behind the show's success is Katie Dippold.
Dippold won Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay and was also recognized as an executive producer of the winning comedy series. The Television Academy lists both of her 2026 Emmy nominations under Widow’s Bay.
Her writing win is particularly significant because it shows that the show's success was not simply driven by its cast.
The writing itself became one of the major reasons Widow’s Bay emerged as the defining comedy of the Emmys 2026.
Matthew Rhys Makes Emmy History
If there was one individual who completely owned the Emmy Awards 2026 winners headlines, it was Matthew Rhys.
Rhys won two lead acting Emmys during the same ceremony.
His first victory came for Widow’s Bay, where he won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
His second came for The Beast in Me, where he won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
That is already an extraordinary achievement.
But there is an even bigger reason his night will be remembered.
Rhys had previously won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Americans in 2018. His 2026 victories therefore give him lead acting wins in drama, comedy and limited series/movie categories.
The Television Academy says Rhys became the first person to win two Emmys for leading performances in the same year.
It means that anyone searching for emmy winners 2026, emmy wins, or emmy winner 2026 is likely to encounter Matthew Rhys as one of the central stories of the ceremony.
Matthew Rhys and The Beast in Me
Rhys' second victory came for his performance as Nile Jarvis in Netflix's The Beast in Me.
The series is an eight-part crime thriller in which Rhys plays a wealthy and manipulative real estate figure suspected of murdering his first wife. Claire Danes plays author Aggie Wiggs, who becomes increasingly fascinated by Jarvis while investigating him for a book.
The victory was particularly notable because Rhys defeated a competitive field that included Oscar Isaac.
It also demonstrated how dramatically different his two 2026 Emmy-winning performances were.
In Widow’s Bay, Rhys won for comedy.
In The Beast in Me, he won for a dark limited-series performance.
That versatility is a major reason his 2026 Emmy awards night will be remembered.
The Pitt Wins Outstanding Drama Series
While Widow’s Bay dominated comedy, The Pitt owned the drama category.
The medical drama won Outstanding Drama Series, continuing its remarkable awards run.
It also produced another major victory for Noah Wyle, who won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
The result gives The Pitt a particularly impressive piece of Emmy history.
The Television Academy reported that the series became the first show since Mad Men to win Outstanding Drama Series for each of its first two seasons.
Wyle's win was similarly significant. He became the first actor since Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the first two seasons of a show.
For fans searching for the The Pitt cast, Noah Wyle was once again at the center of the show's awards success.
Noah Wyle Wins Again for The Pitt
Noah Wyle's 2026 Emmy win is particularly satisfying because The Pitt has increasingly become one of television's major critical successes.
His portrayal of Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch has been one of the defining performances of the series.
The drama's success also demonstrates how strong the competition was among the Emmy nominees 2026.
The drama series category included:
- The Diplomat
- The Gilded Age
- A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
- Paradise
- The Pitt
- Pluribus
- Slow Horses
- Your Friends & Neighbors
Ultimately, The Pitt came out on top.
Rhea Seehorn Wins for Pluribus
Another major acting victory went to Rhea Seehorn for Apple TV's Pluribus.
Seehorn won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, giving her a major individual Emmy breakthrough. The Television Academy's records list her as the winner for her performance as Carol Sturka.
Pluribus had entered the race with 18 nominations and finished with four Emmys overall, making it another important Apple TV success story.
The show's technical and creative victories included awards for:
- Lead Actress
- Writing
- Production Design
- Picture Editing
- Original Main Title Theme
- Sound Mixing
That helped make Apple TV one of the dominant platforms across the 2026 Emmys.
Jean Smart Makes Emmy History With Hacks
Hacks also had an extraordinary night thanks to Jean Smart.
Smart won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the fifth time for her performance in the show's final season.
The victory gave Smart her eighth acting Emmy, tying her with Allison Janney, Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus for the most acting Emmy wins by a performer.
There was another remarkable detail.
Smart became the first performer to win an Emmy for every season of a series.
That makes her 2026 victory more than another award for an acclaimed performer. It represents one of the most consistent Emmy runs in television history.
Other Major Emmy Winners 2026
The Emmys winners 2026 list includes several other important victories.
Allison Janney
Allison Janney won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Diplomat.
Like Jean Smart, Janney now has eight acting Emmys, putting her alongside Smart, Cloris Leachman and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the record books.
Tom Pelphrey
Tom Pelphrey won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Task.
The win was one of the notable first-time Emmy victories of the night.
Sally Field
Sally Field won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Remarkably Bright Creatures.
The victory also made Field the oldest winner in that Emmy category.
The Traitors
The Traitors won Outstanding Reality Competition Program for the third consecutive year.
That extends the show's impressive Emmy dominance in the reality competition category.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won Outstanding Variety Series for the second consecutive year.
What About Only Murders in the Building?
Only Murders in the Building was again part of the comedy conversation.
The Hulu series was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, while Martin Short was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
However, neither took home the top awards in those categories.
The comedy category was extremely competitive, with Only Murders in the Building competing against shows including Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Margo's Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Shrinking and Widow’s Bay.
Ultimately, Widow’s Bay emerged as the clear winner.
The Full Emmy Winners 2026 Story in Numbers
The numbers help explain just how unusual this year's ceremony was.
Widow's Bay: 14 Emmys
The biggest story.
The Apple TV series won 14 Emmys from 19 nominations, setting a new record for most Emmy wins by a comedy in one year.
The Pitt: Outstanding Drama Series
The medical drama won the biggest drama prize and helped cement itself as one of television's leading series.
Matthew Rhys: Two Lead Acting Wins
Rhys won for both Widow’s Bay and The Beast in Me.
No other performer had achieved two lead acting Emmy wins in the same year.
The Pitt: 25 Nominations
Before the ceremony, The Pitt led all programs with 25 Emmy nominations.
Hacks followed with 24, Widow’s Bay with 19 and Pluribus with 18.
Emmy Nominations 2026: Who Had the Most?
The Emmy nominations 2026 race was already unusually competitive before the winners were announced.
The leading shows were:
- The Pitt — 25 nominations
- Hacks — 24 nominations
- Widow’s Bay — 19 nominations
- Pluribus — 18 nominations
That made The Pitt the most nominated program of the year, but Widow’s Bay ultimately had the more spectacular overall win total.
This is an important distinction when looking at the Emmy nominations versus the final Emmy results.
Having the most nominations does not necessarily mean having the most wins.

What Are the Emmys?
For anyone new to television awards, what are the Emmys?
The Emmy Awards are among the most important awards recognizing achievements in television and streaming programming.
They recognize performers, writers, directors, producers and other creative and technical professionals working across television.
The Primetime Emmy Awards focus on programming and performances associated with primetime television, while the Creative Arts Emmy Awards recognize many technical, creative and supporting categories.
That is why a show's total Emmy count can be higher than the number of awards presented during the main televised ceremony.
Widow’s Bay is the perfect example in 2026.
It won six awards during the main telecast but had already collected eight additional Emmys during the Creative Arts ceremony, bringing its total to 14.
Why Widow’s Bay Was the Biggest Story of the Emmys
There is a reason Widow's Bay became the defining show of the Emmy Awards 2026.
It did not simply win the comedy category.
It dominated almost every major area in which it competed.
The series won acting awards, writing, directing and the overall comedy series prize.
It also established a new record for the most Emmy wins by a comedy in a single year.
That is an extraordinary result for a relatively new series.
And Matthew Rhys' double victory made the show's night even more memorable.
Matthew Rhys Wife Searches and His Emmy Night
One of the predictable spikes in online searches around the actor is Matthew Rhys wife.
Rhys is known for his long-term relationship with actress Keri Russell, and the pair have worked together professionally as well as appearing together publicly.
But at the 2026 Emmys, the conversation was overwhelmingly about Rhys' career achievement.
His two wins for Widow’s Bay and The Beast in Me overshadowed almost everything else surrounding him.
The actor himself appeared genuinely stunned by the result, particularly his victory for The Beast in Me.
What Happens Next for the Emmy Winners?
The biggest question after the 2026 Emmy Awards is what these victories mean for the shows going forward.
For Widow’s Bay, the 14-Emmy haul puts enormous expectations on the series.
For The Pitt, another Outstanding Drama Series victory establishes it as one of the strongest current dramas on television.
For Matthew Rhys, the two acting victories could become one of the defining moments of his career.
And for The Beast in Me, the Emmy win gives the Netflix thriller an additional reason for viewers to discover it.
The awards also strengthen Apple TV's position as one of the most important homes for prestige television, with Widow’s Bay and Pluribus both delivering major wins.
Emmy Winners So Far: The Bottom Line
If you were searching for the Emmy winners so far, the answer is now much clearer because the main ceremony and Creative Arts ceremonies have concluded.
The biggest takeaways are:
Widow’s Bay is the biggest winner with 14 total Emmys.
The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series.
Matthew Rhys won two lead acting awards, one for Widow’s Bay and one for The Beast in Me.
Noah Wyle won Lead Actor in a Drama for The Pitt.
Rhea Seehorn won Lead Actress in a Drama for Pluribus.
Jean Smart won Lead Actress in a Comedy for Hacks.
Katie Dippold won for writing Widow’s Bay.
The Traitors won Reality Competition Program for a third consecutive year.
And The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won Variety Series for the second consecutive year.
Final Emmy Results for 2026
The Emmy results ultimately produced one of the most memorable awards nights in recent television history.
The combination of Widow’s Bay breaking the comedy record, The Pitt retaining its drama crown and Matthew Rhys winning two lead acting awards gave the 2026 Emmys several stories that will likely remain part of Emmy history for years.
For viewers who followed the Emmy nominees 2026 before the ceremony, some results were expected.
Others were not.
But the biggest surprise was impossible to miss: Matthew Rhys walked away with two lead acting Emmys in one night, while Widow’s Bay became the most successful comedy in Emmy history by wins in a single year.
That makes the Emmys winners 2026 list one worth remembering.
And if you have not watched Widow’s Bay, The Pitt or The Beast in Me yet, the 2026 Emmy results have given television fans three very good reasons to add them to the watchlist.
